2023/24 Premier League Transfers: Ins and Outs
2023/24 Premier League Transfers: Ins and Outs

As the FIFA Women’s World Cup has dominated the footballing landscape throughout the summer of 2023, attention now begins to turn to the pending start of the domestic seasons in Europe.

Having utterly dominated the Premier League in recent years, with 5 title victories in the last 6 seasons under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City remains the top contenders for glory in the 2023/24 season.

Inevitably though, there are a whole host of sides in the mix for Premier League glory next term and with every side having partaken in a hectic summer of transfer activity, there has been plenty of movement within the playing staff at every Premier League team.

Here are the key ins and outs in the Premier League ahead of the 2023/24 campaign:

Manchester City
For the defending domestic and European champions, most of the talk has been around the players leaving City – rather than those incoming.

Talismanic captain Ilkay Gundogan made the move to Barcelona once his contract was up, whilst Riyad Mahrez brought 5 successful years at City to an end with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Mateo Kovacic has been brought in from Chelsea, seemingly as a direct replacement for Gundogan but it does seem to be another transitional summer for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Arsenal
For most of last season, the race between Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title dominated the narrative.

That seems to have ignited the Gunners who have looked to the transfer market to strengthen their squad in all areas.

Kai Havertz has made a big money switch from Chelsea, whilst Jurrien Timber has moved to the Emirates Stadium from Ajax but the £105 million signing for Declan Rice from West Ham has been the biggest head turner.

Manchester United
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United enjoyed a decent campaign last year, ending their trophy drought and they too have been heavily engaged in recruiting during the summer.

Mason Mount is yet another player to have left Chelsea and moved to another Premier League side, whilst Andre Onana has been brought in from Inter Milan to replace David de Gea in goal.

The Red Devils also look to be investing heavily in their forward line, with Rasmus Hojlund set to join United for £72 million from Atalanta.

Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool arguably had a season to forget last year, as they finished outside the Champions League places and were never genuinely competitive for honours throughout the majority of the campaign.

That has spelled a summer of change at Anfield, with James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, and Roberto Firmino all departing the club.

Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboslai have been recruited to strengthen the midfield, with more transfers expected at Liverpool between now and the start of the season.

Newcastle United
Reaching the Champions League through league position last season was a huge step in the right direction for Newcastle, who have been looking to strengthen accordingly through the summer.

Harvey Barnes has moved to St James’s Park from relegated Leicester City, whilst Sandro Tonali has made the big money switch to the Premier League from AC Milan.

Chris Wood has departed, whilst Allan Saint-Maximin looks set to move to Saudi Arabia, but Newcastle have maintained the nucleus of their squad ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Best of the rest
As ever, all of the Premier League sides have been busy acquiring new players to assist with the season ahead.

England star James Maddison has moved to Tottenham from Leicester, whilst Ashley Young and Arnaut Danjuma have joined Sean Dyche’s Everton, as they look to improved showings next term.

Chelsea have continued to push the form, spending over £100 million again on the likes of Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson, whilst Brighton have brought in a whole host of exciting talents – ahead of their Europa League debut.
