The biggest club competition in football continued to serve up its usual share of thrills and spills, with the Champions League taking centre stage once more. Defending champions Real Madrid remain on course to clinch the title once again, having put pay to 2021 winners Chelsea, whilst 2020 champions Bayern Munich were thumped by Manchester City.
Elsewhere, runaway Serie A leaders Napoli were humbled by domestic rivals AC Milan on the biggest stage, with AC Milan setting up a firecracker of a semi-final against cross-city rivals Inter Milan, after they saw off Portuguese giants Benfica in yet another eventful last 8 clash.

English Premier League champions Manchester City had far too much for German champions Bayern Munich, as they cruised into the Champions League semi-finals for the third successive year.
The damage was done in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium, with City bounding to a comprehensive 3-0 win. Rodri opened the scoring, curling home a sublime 30-yard left footed strike, before Bernardo Silva headed City 2-0 up early in the second half. Erling Haaland completed the scoring for the first leg, to put City fully in control ahead of their trop to Munich.
Inevitably, the dynamic of the game changed at the Allianz Arena and whilst Bayern were much improved, they struggled to really work Ederson in the City goal. Haaland did miss a penalty before opening the scoring on the night to put 4-0 up on aggregate and whilst Bayern did reply through Joshua Kimmich from the penalty spot, it did little to dampen the joy in and amongst Pep Guardiola’s City squad, who face a fascinating end to the season – as they chase a potential treble.
It was very much business as usual for Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, who cruised to a comfortable aggregate win over Frank Lampard’s beleaguered Chelsea and booked their place in the last 4.
The Bernabeu expected in the first leg and Real delivered, with Karim Benzema opening the scoring before Ben Chilwell was sent off for the visitors. Marco Asensio then made it 2-0 to Madrid in the first leg and the whites were able to carry a healthy advantage to London for the second leg.
Chelsea started the second leg extremely well, troubling former Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois on numerous occasions but as ever, Madrid held their nerve and picked off the blues on the counter attack.
Two goals from Brazilian Rodrygo silenced the Stamford Bridge crowd and secured Real’s passage to the semi-finals where they will take on Manchester City in a repeat of last season’s last 4 clash.
2010 Champions League winners Inter Milan booked their place in the last 4, at the expense of Benfica in an enthralling quarter final tie.
Simone Inzaghi’s men were at it from the off in Lisbon and they took the lead in the second half of the first leg, with Nicolo Barella opening the scoring and Romelu Lukaku securing their advantage in the dying embers of the tie.
Back at the San Siro for the second leg, it was Barella again who put Inter 3-0 up on aggregate, but Benfica never gave up hope, with Fredrik Aursnes hitting back for the Portuguese side.
Inter put the tie to bed in the second half, with Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa putting them 3-1 up on the night, 5-1 up in the tie and whilst Antonio Silva and Petar Musa did salvage a draw in Lombardy, it was Inter who progress to the last 4 – where AC Milan await.
Seven-time Champions League winners AC Milan were forced to dig deep to overcome Serie A rivals Napoli and set up a historical semi-final clash with Inter Milan in the last 4.
The San Siro was rocking for the first leg and Milan duly delivered with Ismael Bennacer putting Milan 1-0 up in the tie, with matters getting worse for Napoli as Frank Zambo Anguissa was sent off.
With Naples expectant in the second leg, very little went to plan for the little donkeys as Milan firstly missed a penalty through Olivier Giroud, with the Frenchman making amends to put Milan 2-0 up in the tie.
Napoli pushed from there on in, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia missing a penalty and although Victor Osimhen did pull one back in injury time, it was too little, too late and Milan progressed to the semi-finals.
